Flores & Alor

Flores is part of the group of Island located East of Bali called Nusa Tenggara or small Sunda Islands, including on more than 1300 km from east to west not less than 566 islands.

One distinguish two bows: the North bow (Lombok, Flores, Sumbawa, the archipelago of Solor and Alor) of volcanic origin, and the South bow (Sumba, Roti, Sabu and Timor) smaller and especially made by sedimentary rocks of the oldest volcanism which is inactive nowadays.

The island is covered by plentiful tropical vegetation. A dozen volcanoes that the seismic activity remains important are strewed along the island.

The rainy season from November till March is more active on the West of Flores, where mountains are higher. The best period to dive is between April and November and the temperature of the water vary between 25 ° and 30 °.

Flores is little frequented and all the dives take place essentially in the North of the island, from Maumere (South Pangah Balang, Wai Terang, Babi Island, Adonara Island, Lambata Island).

About ten sites are reachable, plentiful of hard and soft corals, Sea Fans, crinoids. Few of pelagic in Flores, but it is frequent to meet beautiful schools of snappers, barracudas, and some reef sharks. On the other hand, if you are a macro fauna life lover, Flores and Alor will satisfy you. The currents are sometimes strong, it is recommended to have a good experience of diving before joining a cruise.
