Diving in Raja Ampat and Komodo with Mikumba
Mikumba is a traditional indonesian 24 meters phinisi welcoming 10 divers. She offers Raja Ampat 10 days live-aboard, 3 days or 6 days live-aboard, and two 19 days Raja Ampat – Komodo live-aboard.
She consists in 3 air conditioning cabins, without bathroom, located on lower deck. One cabin has 4 beds and window, two cabins is equipped of 2 bunk beds. On upper deck, one “open cabin” has 2 bunk beds. It’s called open cabin because it has no door. Two shared bathroom are situated on upper deck.
Shared spaces are open air dining area with lounge corner, and sun deck on top of wheelhouse with confortables sun chairs and bean bags.
A caring professional crew
The chef cook will amaze you with dishes diversity offers, choice between local or occidental food. No fish served on board, for several reasons. One is that is hard to find sustainable fish from the local market in Sorong. The fish comes from bad places like dynamite, longline or trawling and the cruise director don’t wish to support this kind of fishing practices. The sustainable fish can be get from Waisai or direct from the fishermens boats, but won’t be enough for all guests.
Cruise director and owner of Mikumba is swedish, dive guides are indonesian, as the crew. Crew members are one captain, 2 engineers, one chef cook, 2 dinghies drivers, and one boat boy. Three dive guides will be at your service, all SSI or PADI professionnals, CPR trained, with an excellent knowledge of dive sites. Three dives guide for 10 divers, mean small diving groups. Language spoken on board is swedish and english. Two dinghies will take divers to the dive sites. Diving platform hosts 20 tanks and a large camera rinsing tub.
A sample day on board will be spend like this. Wake up at 6:30AM for a light breakfast, then first dive. Then a consistent breakfast will be served at 9AM, and second dive will be programmed around 10:50AM. Lunch will be ready between 12:30PM and 1PM. You will have plenty of time to relax or take a nap before the 3rd dive at 3PM. A snack will be waiting for you after the dive, and according to itinerary a sunset or night dive can be organized. If you do a sunset dive, dinner will be served at 7:30PM or 8:30PM if you do a night dive.
Land excursions, drop off on beautiful beaches will be scheduled either in Raja Ampat and Komodo.
Diving and boat safety first!
Security on board Mikumba is taken seriously. She’s equipped with GPS, depth sounder, satellite phone, radar, HF/DSC/SSB radio, lift raft, safety buoys, life jackets, fire extinguishers, first aid kit and lots of oxygen. Diving guide are trained to first aid as well as crew are trained to emergency situation.
